Yoane Wissa Eyes Brentford Exit as Newcastle Interest Intensifies

London, July 31 – Yoane Wissa is pushing hard for a move away from Brentford, with Newcastle United firmly in his sights.

The 28-year-old forward has been training away from the rest of the squad this week after leaving Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal. On Friday, he did not train at all and was seen departing the training ground early — a further sign of growing tension behind the scenes.

Wissa is eager to join Newcastle, who had a £25 million bid for the player rejected earlier this summer. The Magpies remain interested, and the Congolese international is understood to be keen on making the switch to St James’ Park.

Brentford, however, are digging in their heels. Having already sold Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Nørgaard, and goalkeeper Mark Flekken during this transfer window, the West London club are reluctant to part with another key player.

Wissa enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 campaign, registering 20 goals and five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. With just one year remaining on his contract, this summer marks Brentford’s final realistic chance to secure a significant fee for the player — a dilemma that could force their hand as the window progresses.

While Brentford would prefer to keep hold of one of their standout performers, Wissa’s determination to leave could ultimately tip the balance.
