West Ham Open Talks with Callum Wilson Over Free Transfer Move

Share

London, July 25 – West Ham United have opened negotiations with veteran striker Callum Wilson over a potential free transfer, as the East London club look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.

Wilson, now 33, is available on a free after his contract with Newcastle United expired earlier this summer. Despite a difficult 2024/25 campaign in which he managed just one goal in 22 league appearances for the Magpies, the Hammers are reportedly intrigued by his proven Premier League pedigree — and particularly his striking record against them.

Over the course of his career, Wilson has scored an impressive 12 goals in 16 Premier League outings against West Ham — a tally that hasn’t gone unnoticed inside the London Stadium. Known for his intelligent movement and clinical finishing, the England international could offer valuable experience and a different profile in attack for David Moyes’ side.

Injuries have hampered Wilson in recent seasons, but West Ham are believed to view the deal as low-risk due to the lack of a transfer fee. Talks are ongoing, and personal terms will likely determine whether the move progresses swiftly.

Should the deal go through, Wilson would be expected to compete with younger forwards for a place in the matchday squad, while also offering mentorship to the next generation of attackers.

For West Ham, this potential signing could represent a smart short-term solution in their bid to add depth and goals — and in Wilson, they may finally have a former nemesis on their side.
