Lisbon/Manchester, July 20, 2025 — Sporting CP and Manchester United are nearing an agreement over the transfer of striker Viktor Gyökeres, according to SIC Notícias.
The Swedish international has been at the center of one of this summer’s most drawn-out transfer sagas, with Arsenal pushing for weeks to bring him to North London. However, talks between Arsenal and Sporting have stalled once again, and with no final agreement on the transfer fee, the move is now at serious risk of collapse.
Manchester United, under the leadership of Rúben Amorim, have moved decisively in recent days. Sources indicate that United’s proposal is very close in value to the package Arsenal were negotiating — a €63.5 million base fee rising to €70 million after Gyökeres’ agent agreed to waive a previously negotiated €6.5 million commission.
The forward remains keen on playing in the Premier League, but the identity of the club is now shifting. With United emerging as the most concrete option and personal terms not expected to be an issue, a transfer to Old Trafford is looking increasingly likely.
