RB Leipzig Reach Verbal Agreement for Romulo Amid Striker Reshuffle

Share

Istanbul, July 26 – RB Leipzig have reached a verbal agreement with Brazilian striker Romulo, but the move remains contingent on outgoing transfers, as the Bundesliga side look to reshuffle their attacking department ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old forward currently plays for Turkish Super Lig outfit Göztepe, who are demanding a fee between €25 million and €30 million for one of their most prized assets. However, Leipzig are actively negotiating to lower the asking price to below €20 million, according to reports in Germany.

Romulo only joined Göztepe on a permanent deal in January, after a successful loan spell from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense. The Turkish club paid just €2.5 million to make the move permanent and now stand to make a significant profit following the striker’s breakout season.

In his first 46 games in European football, Romulo has impressed with 22 goals and 13 assists, quickly becoming one of the hottest young attacking prospects outside Europe’s top five leagues.

While earlier speculation had linked a potential move for Romulo to the future of Benjamin Šeško, it’s now understood the transfer hinges more on the status of André Silva and Timo Werner. Both forwards are considered surplus to requirements at Leipzig, and the club are working to resolve their situations before finalising a deal for the Brazilian.

Leipzig’s strategy suggests a clear intent to inject fresh attacking talent into their squad while reducing their wage bill and squad size. Romulo, with his pace, technical quality and goal-scoring instinct, fits the club’s profile of developing young, high-ceiling players from across Europe and beyond.

Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days, with Leipzig hopeful of reaching a full agreement once outgoings are confirmed.
