RB Leipzig Eye Højlund as United Step Up Pursuit of Sesko

Leipzig, August 2 – Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund has emerged as a surprise target for RB Leipzig, potentially paving the way for the Red Devils to push forward in their pursuit of Benjamin Šeško.

After a mixed spell at Old Trafford, Højlund’s future has come under scrutiny, and reports suggest the Bundesliga side are now monitoring the Denmark international’s situation. The 22-year-old was brought in with high expectations following a standout season in Serie A, but he has found it difficult to produce consistent performances across his two campaigns in the Premier League.

Leipzig’s renewed interest in Højlund could offer United a timely boost in their ongoing chase for Šeško—one of the brightest attacking prospects in Europe. The Slovenian forward has impressed during his time in Germany and is seen by many as a more immediate solution for United’s forward line.

A potential player-plus-cash deal involving Højlund could help United lower Šeško’s transfer fee, with new head coach Rúben Amorim reportedly prioritising a sharper, more dynamic option in attack. Amorim is thought to view Šeško as a better fit for his tactical setup and a player capable of making an instant impact.

However, United may not have a clear run at Šeško. Newcastle United are also believed to be in the race, according to a separate report from The Athletic, which could complicate matters if Leipzig decide to spark a bidding war.

As it stands, much will depend on Leipzig’s willingness to part ways with Šeško—and whether United can convince them that Højlund still has the potential to thrive in the Bundesliga. A move could suit all parties, but talks remain at an early stage.
