Marcus Rashford Reacts to Leaving Manchester United

Barcelona, July 24 – Marcus Rashford has confirmed his departure from Manchester United, bringing an end to a long and often glittering spell at Old Trafford that began in the club’s academy and saw him go on to score 138 goals in 426 appearances.

Speaking publicly for the first time since sealing his loan move to Barcelona, Rashford, now 27, reflected on United’s ongoing transition and admitted that while the move wasn’t part of his original plan, he’s fully committed to turning the page.

“The situation with United is the club is in a period of change and they have been for a while,” Rashford said. “I don’t have anything bad to say about the club as it has been an important part not just of my career but my life.”

Rashford’s relationship with United soured following a reported fallout with incoming manager Rúben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in the summer of 2024. The forward was subsequently loaned to Aston Villa, where he showed flashes of his old form, but it became clear a permanent split was on the horizon.

“But like life, not everything goes as simple as you thought and this is my next chapter,” he added. “I’m fully focused on improving myself and helping the team win trophies. I have nothing bad to say about United. I wish them all the best and hope they are successful in the future.”

Rashford had signed a lucrative new contract with United as recently as July 2023, committing until 2028 on a reported £325,000 per week – a reflection of his importance at the time. But a frustrating 2024/25 campaign, compounded by a lack of chemistry with Amorim, accelerated his exit.
