Liverpool Not Done in the Market After £79m Hugo Ekitike Deal

Liverpool, July 24 – Liverpool have struck a £79 million agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for forward Hugo Ekitike, with the Reds valuing the Frenchman’s versatility and technical profile after extensive data analysis flagged him as a high-potential fit for Arne Slot’s evolving frontline.

The deal, negotiated between Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes and his Frankfurt counterpart Markus Krösche, signals another statement of intent as the Anfield rebuild picks up pace ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Ekitike, still only 23, is seen as a multi-functional forward capable of playing across the front three – a trait that Liverpool’s analytics department reportedly rated highly. His arrival adds depth and dynamism to an attacking unit that could see significant movement in the coming weeks.

Sources close to the club suggest Liverpool are not done in the transfer market. Reinforcements at the back remain a priority, with a new central defender expected before the window closes. The Reds are also open to bringing in another forward, especially if Luis Díaz is sold. The Colombian international continues to attract interest from abroad, and Liverpool are prepared to listen to offers should the valuation be met.

Meanwhile, Darwin Núñez’s future remains unresolved. The Uruguayan striker has been the subject of firm interest from Saudi Arabia, although Napoli have dropped out of the race after balking at Liverpool’s €70 million price tag.

With a new era under Slot already beginning to take shape, Liverpool appear focused on smart, data-driven recruitment – and the Ekitike deal may prove the first major building block in a busy summer reshuffle.
