Liverpool, July 20, 2025Liverpool are currently favourites to sign highly rated midfielder Adam Wharton, but a transfer is not expected to take place until summer 2026, according to The Sun on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Crystal Palace star is attracting interest from several top clubs after a breakout season in the Premier League and with England. However, sources close to the player say Wharton intends to stay at Selhurst Park for one more year to continue his development with regular first-team football.

Liverpool have been monitoring his progress closely and view Wharton as a long-term midfield solution as they look to refresh their engine room under Arne Slot. While a move this summer is considered unlikely, the Reds are laying the groundwork early and remain confident of securing his signature ahead of rival clubs next year.

Wharton is under contract at Crystal Palace until 2028, putting the South London side in a strong position. Nonetheless, Liverpool’s interest is serious, and a formal approach could come as early as January 2026 if the player maintains his current trajectory.
