Konaté Committed to Liverpool Amid Real Madrid Interest

Liverpool, August 1 – Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a bold move for Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo, as new manager Thomas Frank looks to reshape the squad following a turbulent 2024/25 season.

Despite lifting the Europa League trophy with a dramatic victory over Manchester United, Spurs endured a nightmare Premier League campaign, finishing 17th — narrowly avoiding relegation. The domestic disappointment proved too much for chairman Daniel Levy, who opted to part ways with Ange Postecoglou at the end of the season.

Frank, appointed to steady the ship and reignite Spurs’ top-flight ambitions, is said to be targeting a marquee signing that will signal a new era in North London. According to Fichajes, that player could be Ronald Araujo — Barcelona’s commanding Uruguayan international.

With Christian Romero attracting strong interest from Atlético Madrid, Tottenham may soon be in the market for a top-tier replacement at the heart of defence. Araujo, 26, fits the bill perfectly, boasting Champions League pedigree and a World Cup résumé. His physical presence, aerial ability, and leadership qualities make him a like-for-like successor to Romero should the Argentine decide to move on.

Araujo remains under contract at Camp Nou until 2031, and Barcelona are understood to value him between €70–80 million — a figure that would make him one of Tottenham’s most expensive signings ever.

Whether Spurs are willing or financially able to meet that valuation remains to be seen. But with a new manager at the helm and a clear need for defensive reinforcements, Araujo has emerged as a serious option in what could become one of the Premier League’s most eye-catching transfers of the summer.
