Wolverhampton, July 29 – Gonçalo Guedes is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to La Liga side Real Sociedad, according to Record Portugal. The Portuguese winger looks set to bring his underwhelming spell at Wolves to an end just two years after joining the Premier League club.
Signed from Valencia in the summer of 2022 for nearly £30 million, Guedes arrived with high expectations but has struggled to make a lasting impact. He has spent the majority of his time in England out on loan, with only brief spells in the first team under successive Wolves managers.
In his only full Premier League campaign, Guedes featured in 29 matches but made just 10 starts and found the net only twice — a return that failed to justify the sizeable transfer fee paid for his services.
Despite limited impact on the pitch, the 28-year-old remained a squad option throughout the season. However, with Wolves needing to reduce their wage bill and raise funds, a permanent departure is now seen as essential.
The club has already lost Pablo Sarabia on a free transfer earlier this summer, and letting Guedes leave without a fee would be another financial blow. Real Sociedad are believed to be keen on a deal, though it remains unclear whether Wolves will recoup a meaningful portion of their initial investment.
As Vítor Pereira reshapes his squad ahead of the new season, Guedes’ expected exit could mark another chapter in Wolves’ effort to reset and rebuild under financial constraints.
