Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has strongly indicated that star striker Alexander Isak is set to stay at St. James’ Park for the start of the 2025–26 season. The remarks come amid growing interest from Premier League rivals, notably Liverpool.

Howe confirmed that Isak was rested during Newcastle’s 4–0 pre-season friendly defeat to Celtic — a decision he described as “to protect him from media speculation.” Despite the speculation, Howe reaffirmed that “Alex is happy at Newcastle, he loves the players, the staff, the team,” adding, “I’m confident he’s going to be here at the start of the season.”

During the 2024–25 Premier League campaign, the 25‑year‑old Swedish striker delivered an impressive return: 23 goals and 6 assists in 34 appearances, finishing as Newcastle’s top scorer in the league. His goals helped propel Newcastle to a 5th-place finish, securing a return to the UEFA Champions League, and he also starred in their EFL Cup triumph over Liverpool
With no official bids made, and the club firmly stating that Isak is “not for sale,” Howe stressed the level of uncertainty inherent in football: “It’s difficult for me to give 100 per cent clarity on any player.”
In summary, Isak’s forward performances last season and Howe’s clear expression of confidence suggest Newcastle are poised to keep their star striker as they embark on a season filled with both domestic and European ambitions.
