Dele Alli Considering English Return After Como Exit, Retirement Rumours Dismissed

Share

Como, August 4 – Dele Alli is reportedly weighing up a return to English football following a short-lived and disappointing stint with Serie A newcomers Como. The former Tottenham and England midfielder, who had hoped to reignite his career in Italy, is now exploring fresh options amid suggestions of retirement — claims which have been firmly dismissed.

Alli, 29, joined Como in late 2024 after his contract with Everton expired, signing an 18-month deal that offered a potential career lifeline. The move was championed by Como’s sporting advisor Cesc Fàbregas, whose high-profile backing raised hopes that the midfielder could find his feet again.

However, the Italian venture unravelled almost immediately. Alli made just one appearance for the club, coming off the bench against AC Milan—only to receive a red card in under 10 minutes. Since then, he has been training away from the first-team squad, with Como effectively cutting ties after just a few months.

With his future in Italy all but over, Alli is believed to be keeping the door open to a return to England. A Premier League comeback appears unlikely given his recent struggles, but a move to the Football League has been touted as a potential route to rebuild his reputation and rediscover the form that once made him one of England’s brightest young stars.

Alli has endured a turbulent few years, battling form, injuries, and personal challenges. But despite growing doubts about whether he can still perform at a high level, sources close to the player insist he has no intention of retiring and is determined to prove his doubters wrong.

As clubs across the English football pyramid prepare for the new season, Alli’s name may soon re-enter the conversation—albeit at a different level than fans once expected. Whether he can write a comeback story remains to be seen, but he appears ready to try.
