Darwin Núñez Under Consideration by Al-Hilal as Inzaghi Provides Input on Striker Search

Riyadh, July 25 – Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal are weighing up a potential move for Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez as part of their search for a marquee striker this summer. Internal discussions are ongoing within the club, with head coach Simone Inzaghi playing a pivotal role in determining whether to advance talks for the Uruguay international.

Núñez, 26, has emerged as a high-profile option for Al-Hilal, who are intent on reinforcing their attack ahead of the new season. The club is understood to be committed to signing a new centre-forward and views Núñez as a player with the physicality, intensity, and flair to thrive in the league.

No formal approach has been made to Liverpool at this stage, but the Reds are well aware of interest from the Saudi market. Their stance on Núñez’s valuation was made clear in January, when they rejected a €70 million bid from Al-Nassr. Any fresh attempt would likely need to exceed that figure to open the door for negotiations.

The final decision on whether to proceed with an offer will rest heavily on Inzaghi’s assessment, as the Italian tactician shapes the squad in his first window in charge. Al-Hilal are exploring multiple options across Europe but view Núñez as a statement signing should he become attainable.

Núñez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 in a deal worth up to £85 million. While his time at Anfield has had flashes of promise, he couldn’t establish himself as an automatic starting pick for the Reds.

Al-Hilal’s pursuit of a new No. 9 comes after a dominant domestic season and a renewed push to build a squad capable of challenging for AFC Champions League honours. The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as the club narrows its shortlist—and Darwin Núñez remains firmly in the conversation.
