Strasbourg, July 21 – Chelsea youngster Mamadou Sarr is set to rejoin Strasbourg on loan, as first reported by Fabrizio Romano. The highly rated centre-back will return to the Ligue 1 outfit after sealing a long-term deal with the Blues earlier this summer.
Sarr, who signed a nine-year contract with Chelsea on June 9, made 28 senior appearances for Strasbourg before his move to west London. The 19-year-old is viewed as a top defensive prospect and is expected to benefit from more regular minutes back in familiar surroundings.
The French-born defender is the son of former Senegal international Pape Sarr and was born in Martigues during his father’s spell at Istres. Much of his upbringing was spent in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, following his father’s career, particularly his long stint at Lens.
Chelsea remain committed to Sarr’s development and view the loan as an opportunity for the teenager to continue maturing in a top European league while gaining valuable first-team experience.
