Marseille, 20 July 2025 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sealed a return to Olympique de Marseille, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 side. The veteran forward’s decision has now been communicated to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq, who had been exploring a deal but will now move on to alternative striker targets.

The 36-year-old Gabon international brings with him a wealth of experience from across Europe and beyond. Aubameyang began his professional journey at AC Milan, though he never featured for the senior side, instead gaining valuable minutes during loan spells in France. A permanent move to Saint-Étienne in 2011 marked his rise, culminating in a Coupe de la Ligue triumph and a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

During his time in Germany, Aubameyang established himself as one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, finishing as Bundesliga top scorer in the 2016–17 season and winning the DFB-Pokal. His tally of goals also secured him a place among Dortmund’s all-time greats, ranking eighth in their goalscoring charts.

In 2018, he became the most expensive Gabonese player in history when Arsenal acquired him for £56 million (€60 million). He repaid their faith by winning an FA Cup and finishing as the joint top scorer in the Premier League for the 2018–19 season.

Following his Arsenal stint, the striker enjoyed brief spells with Barcelona and Chelsea before joining Marseille in 2023. A year later, he made a move to Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia, but the lure of a return to European football has now drawn him back to the Stade Vélodrome.

With Marseille eager to bolster their attacking ranks, Aubameyang’s return brings a proven goalscorer and a leader back into the fold.
