London, July 24 – Arsenal are poised to officially unveil Viktor Gyökeres as their newest signing, with the long-running saga finally nearing its conclusion. The Gunners have reached a full agreement with Sporting CP for the Swedish striker, in a deal worth up to €73.5 million (£63.7m).
The breakthrough comes after weeks of negotiations, with the sticking point centred around the structure of the add-ons. Sporting had insisted on a package worth €80 million — comprising €70 million up front and €10 million in bonuses — and while Arsenal were initially reluctant to meet those terms, they’ve now struck a compromise.
The final agreement includes a base fee of €63.5 million, with an additional €10 million in performance-related clauses. Crucially, Sporting’s position softened after the player’s agents agreed to waive their 10% cut of the fixed fee — a move that effectively saved the Portuguese club €6.35 million and helped smooth over the final stages of the deal.
The 26-year-old Gyökeres had a stellar campaign in Portugal, becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards with a blend of pace, power, and consistent goalscoring. Mikel Arteta has long identified him as the ideal No.9 to lead the line at the Emirates, and his arrival is set to mark a major boost to Arsenal’s title ambitions for the upcoming season.
Barring any last-minute hiccups, the official announcement from Arsenal could come as soon as today, with the forward expected to join up with the squad before the conclusion of their pre-season tour.
