Alexander Isak Open to Liverpool Move as Reds Prepare Record-Breaking Approach

Share

Newcastle, July 25 – Liverpool are actively exploring a high-profile move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with the Swedish international understood to be open to the switch and welcoming of a formal bid from Anfield.

While suggestions that Isak has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool are premature, sources confirm that initial contact has been made with the player’s representatives. The Merseyside club also informed Newcastle—prior to the arrival of Hugo Ekitike—that they would be prepared to break the British transfer record to land the 25-year-old forward.

Liverpool’s current financial flexibility under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) provides them with the scope to complete a marquee signing this summer. The possible sale of Luis Díaz, coupled with the expected departure of Darwin Núñez, could generate significant funds to help finance a move for Isak, who scored 23 goals in the 2024–25 Premier League season.

Despite the growing interest, Newcastle have not given up hope of keeping their star striker. The club remains keen to tie Isak down to a new long-term contract but have so far been unable to meet his wage expectations, believed to be in the region of £300,000 per week. Isak has not engaged in extension talks, and sources close to the player suggest he would have signed a new deal last year had one been offered.

With the striker yet to commit his future to St. James’ Park, Newcastle have started to explore potential replacements in case Isak departs in the coming weeks. The club remains publicly firm on their desire to retain him, but a record bid from Liverpool could test that resolve.

A fresh approach from Liverpool is anticipated as they look to reshape their forward line under new head coach Arne Slot. Isak’s pace, clinical finishing, and Premier League experience have placed him high on their shortlist of attacking targets.

For now, the saga remains in its early stages—but the groundwork has been laid for what could become one of the summer’s most high-profile transfer battles.
