Turin, July 31 – Juventus general manager Damien Comolli has expressed his frustration after Douglas Luiz failed to report for training this week, amid growing speculation over the midfielder’s future at the club.
Luiz, who joined Juventus from Aston Villa just last summer, is reportedly desperate to secure a move away from Turin after an injury-hit debut season. The 26-year-old made only 19 Serie A appearances in 2024/25 and came off the bench just once during the Club World Cup. Now, his decision to go AWOL in an apparent effort to force an exit has sparked anger inside the Juventus camp.
Comolli was left furious by Luiz’s actions, describing them as a clear sign of disrespect toward his teammates and the club. “The player disrespected his team-mates,” he said. “Everyone must respect the shirt they wear. He then apologised to everyone — players, coaches, and me.”
While Luiz has since apologised and returned to training, Juventus have taken disciplinary action in response to the episode. Comolli, although empathetic about the player’s desire for more playing time and a fresh start, made it clear that no one will be allowed to leave unless the club’s valuation is met.
Nottingham Forest are one of the clubs exploring a deal for Luiz and have reportedly submitted a loan offer with an option to buy. However, Juventus are holding out for a permanent fee of €40 million (£34m), which could prove too steep for the Premier League outfit.
With less than a month remaining in the transfer window, Luiz’s future remains uncertain. Juventus are open to business — but only on their terms.
