Lyon, July 31 – Tyler Morton is edging closer to a potential move away from Liverpool after agreeing personal terms with Lyon — but the French club are still baulking at the Reds’ £8 million valuation.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who has yet to make a Premier League appearance for Liverpool’s first team, impressed during a season-long loan at Hull City in the Championship. Morton featured 39 times for the Tigers last season, registering three goals and five assists as he played a key role in their midfield.
Lyon are understood to have reached a contractual agreement with Morton, who is open to the move and keen for regular top-flight football. However, negotiations between the Ligue 1 side and Liverpool are said to be at an impasse, with Lyon reluctant to meet the full asking price.
Despite limited senior opportunities at Anfield — Morton has made just 10 appearances for Liverpool, none in the league — his development has continued steadily. A standout for England’s Under-21s, he was part of the squad that triumphed in last year’s European Championship, further enhancing his profile abroad.
Liverpool are believed to value the player’s potential highly, and are unwilling to sell for less than market value, especially in light of his upward trajectory and homegrown status.
Whether Lyon return with an improved offer remains to be seen, but the French club will need to act quickly if they want to fend off potential rival interest in the talented midfielder.
