Newcastle Sound Out Nicolas Jackson as Isak Interest Grows — But Chelsea’s Price Tag Raises Eyebrows

Newcastle, July 29 – Newcastle United have made early contact with Chelsea over a potential move for striker Nicolas Jackson — but the Magpies have been left stunned by the Blues’ hefty £80 million valuation.

The 24-year-old forward is emerging as a top target for Eddie Howe’s side as uncertainty grows over the future of Alexander Isak, who is reportedly attracting strong interest from Liverpool this summer.

While Newcastle are keen to reinforce their attacking options should Isak depart, the asking price for Jackson has put an early roadblock in negotiations. The Tyneside club are said to rate the Senegalese international closer to £65 million — a figure they believe more accurately reflects his current market value.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea in 2023, has shown glimpses of his potential in the Premier League with his explosive pace and technical ability, but an £80 million fee would represent a significant profit on the £32 million the Blues paid to Villarreal just a year ago.

With financial fair play restrictions tightening, Newcastle are being cautious with their spending this window. However, the club remains ambitious, especially with the possibility of Champions League football returning to St James’ Park next season.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will budge on their valuation or if Newcastle will explore alternative targets should a deal prove too costly. Either way, the saga surrounding Jackson — and Isak’s future — is likely to be one to watch as the summer window progresses.
