Newcastle, July 26 – Alexander Isak has shown no interest in engaging with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, despite Newcastle United being informed of a potential €150 million bid for the striker, according to senior sources.
Officials from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport had reportedly signalled a willingness to fund a blockbuster offer for the 25-year-old, but the player himself has offered no encouragement over a possible move to the Gulf state.
Al-Hilal have since shifted their focus to Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez as a more viable alternative.
Isak, meanwhile, remains open to a move to Liverpool, with the Swedish international currently unwilling to commit to a new contract at St James’ Park. Talks over improved terms have stalled, with significant distance between the two parties and lingering frustration on Isak’s part over the club’s failure to offer an extension 12 months ago following his impressive debut campaign in English football.
Newcastle, who view Isak as central to their long-term project, are under no pressure to sell, but may face a battle to retain their star striker if top European clubs come calling. The Magpies signed the former Real Sociedad forward in 2022 for a club-record fee, and he has since gone on to become one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking talents.
With Liverpool in search of long-term attacking reinforcements, Isak’s unsettled contract situation is likely to keep him firmly on their radar.
As it stands, Newcastle are hoping to convince Isak to commit his future to the club—but without an agreement in sight, the saga could continue into the final weeks of the summer window.
