Dammam, July 25 – Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq are monitoring ex-Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season. While discussions are not yet advanced, the England international is firmly on the club’s radar as a potential signing.
Ettifaq are actively prioritising the addition of a new striker and have already tabled a $2 million net salary offer for Dutch forward Luuk de Jong on a one-year contract. However, the proposal has been rejected by the PSV Eindhoven captain.
The club has reportedly issued a 24-hour deadline to De Jong to make a final decision on the offer. Should the veteran forward opt against the move, Ettifaq are expected to shift their focus more seriously toward Wilson, with further discussions likely to take place.
Wilson, who had a goalless, injury-ridden Premier League campaign last season, is still looking for a club after leaving Newcastle. His profile and Premier League experience are believed to be appealing to Ettifaq’s leadership.
The Saudi outfit, managed by Steven Gerrard, remain active in the market as they seek to bolster their squad following a mid-table finish last season.
